Please note transport charges to return the product to and from Ghost Wood Designs for repair or replacement are the responsibility of the owner.

Care & Maintenance

Please don’t hesitate to ask us if you are unsure about the correct care for your product, as preventative maintenance is always a better option than repairs.

Your timber piece has been finished with Osmo Oil. This is a non-toxic product made in Germany from a combination of natural oils and waxes and is approved food safe and suitable for children’s toys (EURONORM EN71).

Timber Maintenance In Three Easy Steps

Regular Damp Cleaning

To clean your Ghost Wood Designs (GWD) product simply use water and a slightly damp cloth or use Osmo Wash & Care [available from GWD]. Osmo Wash & Care is a natural cleaning concentrate which cleans without leaching the Osmo oils from your piece. Do not use harsh detergents, commercial cleaning products or silicone based polishes (like Mr Sheen for example) as they may remove the Osmo Oil finish.

Any GWD pieces that are used in the kitchen should not be left wet for long periods and will need to be wiped down after cooking or washing up. It isn’t recommended to leave wet pots and pans sitting to dry directly on bench / table tops. Please do not place hot items (pots, items from the oven etc) directly on the timber top. Make sure your bench top is protected when using oven cleaner nearby.

Occasional Intensive Cleaning

Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner [provided with your purchase] intensively cleans the surface and adds a thin layer of extra wax. We recommend using this product at least four times per year, or whenever the surface is looking dull or dry. Apply sparingly from the spray bottle to an area of around 1 sqm and polish into the timber using a small lint free cloth in a circular motion. Finish by polishing with the grain of the timber.

Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner can also be used to remove stubborn dirt and marks. Spray onto the problem area and rub into the stain with a small cloth to remove the dirt, where possible it is best to rub the area in line with the grain of the timber.

Surface Protection And Renewal

If the surface gets scratched or damaged it can easily be touched up or patch fixed in situ without sanding back to bare wood. First clean and dry the surface, then apply Osmo Polyx Oil [available from GWD] very thinly as per application instructions. Please contact us if the damage is more significant and we can advise how to best treat the timber.

Regular care and maintenance will ensure that your timber piece continues to look as great as it did the day you purchased it.
